This new installation
of 70 paintings from the Smithsonian American Art Museum’s collection
will be on view indefinitely in the Grand Salon of the museum’s
branch, the Renwick Gallery. The installation features paintings by
51 American artists from the 1840s to the 1930s. Many of these paintings
have not been exhibited in a number of years. Artists whose works are
on view include Edward Mitchell Bannister, Romaine Brooks, Frederick
Stuart Church, Elliott Daingerfield, Daniel Garber, William Morris Hunt,
George Inness, Homer Dodge Martin, Albert Pinkham Ryder, Abbott Handerson
Thayer, John Henry Twachtman and Irving R. Wiles.
The Society of Decorative
Painters Smithsonian Ornament Project for the Smithsonian Renwick Gallery
is part of display in the Grand Salon during the holiday season. The
SDP Ornaments will be on display in the Renwick starting Dec. 3 and
through the end of December 2009.

Bios:
Joe Nichols, Forkston, Pa was born in Miner’s Mills in
a company house owned by the Pine Ridge Colliery. He is a retired
Mechanical engineer for P&G and is the driving force in
preserving the history of Pine Ridge.
Barb
Paganucci Tourscher, Who lives in Tunkhannock, PA appears in
the DVD clip “The Whistle Blew Steady.” She currently
owns an investment firm. She grew up in Sullivan County and
has several miners in her family history.
Ken
Schneider, Laceyville, Pa works full time on his photography
business and produced the DVD short clip.
He specializes in photo restoration and montage renditions of
vintage photos.
Karen
Black, Dushore, Pa operates an art studio beside working full
time with her husband at JMB Supply.
Her artwork in Oils, acrylic, among others can be found at the
Blue Heron Art Gallery, Wyalusing and Arts Youniverse, Wilkes-Barre.
Her grandfather worked as a coalminer in Blakeslee.
