Albert has spent his life doing exactly he wanted to do,” says Joe Nichols of Lovelton, Pa., a friend of Dr. List. Albert says, in his own words, “Roaming around the woods all over the world; finding the beauty around us and painting it for others to enjoy.”
Dr. List’s fascination with plant life carried him through doctoral studies at Cornell Univ. and the Univ. of Pennsylvania as well as teaching at Rutgers and 38 years at Drexel University.
During his studies he worked with botany scholars such as Arthur W. Eames, Harlan W. Banks and Raymond Torrey. Albert recorded many of the specimens he studied with ink illustrations which have been published in numerous books and papers. Some of his students are men such as Dr. Walter Bien and Dr. Michael Yoshpa.
He also completed, while in NY, ASL art school and became even more interested in capturing the natural beauty that surrounds all of us.
Besides the many doctoral fellowships and teaching positions he also found time to travel to South America for the Smithsonian Institute to study plant life there and was commissioned to do a painting for the National Botany Department for the Institute. Albert has also completed several commissions for the National Park Service.
He also did a study for the EPA on Peat Bogs of the Pocono’s. Albert, also did a tour in the Army and was sent to Tokyo, Japan that gave him the opportunity to study the magnificent mountains and plant life while with the Army Map Service.
Albert’s research brought significant breakthroughs in the evolution of plant life. He has also advanced the field of photographic technology and produced stunning artwork that has been featured around the United States. He also built a home in the Berkshire Mountains of Massachusetts, one of the places he loves the most, but now resides in Doylestown, Pa living life in the face of multiple adversities of illness.
